The Foundation has funded genetic testing for Oleksii: a step towards understanding and hope!

The Bonum Ukraine Charitable Foundation continues to support families facing difficult circumstances due to their children’s health conditions. This time, a family from Odesa has received assistance. The cost of comprehensive genetic testing for their son, Oleksii, has been fully covered.
Oleksii has a twin brother, Volodymyr. Both boys are facing a difficult journey of development, but Oleksii’s condition is significantly more complex. At the age of 4, he has no understanding of speech and does not speak, has coordination difficulties and relies on enteral feeding.
The clinical picture suggests a possible genetic cause for these disorders. That is why the decision was made to conduct whole-genome testing — a modern and in-depth diagnostic approach that offers a chance to find answers where other methods fall short.
The results of this testing are of paramount importance. They will help establish the cause of Oleksii’s condition, better understand the mechanisms of the disorders and, most importantly, determine the most effective approaches to treatment and support. Additionally, there is hope of obtaining answers regarding the specifics of his metabolism and nutrition — whether the boy will be able to move away from enteral formula in the future and expand his diet without harming his health.
As Oleksii and Volodymyr are twins, the results of the research will also be relevant to his brother. This will allow for a deeper understanding of the situation as a whole and more accurate planning of the next steps for both children.

The Foundation helps with the cost of genetic testing if the situation is critical and it is impossible to establish a diagnosis or treatment plan without data on the genetic abnormality.  Bonum is there to provide support where it is needed and does everything possible to ensure that children have a chance at a better quality of life and a brighter future.
