Mykola from Mariupol was born prematurely with a very low weight (1750 grams). He did not cry out or start breathing on his own, so he was urgently connected to a ventilator. Thanks to the coordinated actions of the doctors, the child was resuscitated.
Until he was one year old, Mykola grew and developed like a normal child! At the age of one year and nine months, he contracted covid, and after recovery he became completely silent. Even simple sounds disappeared, as his mother says, “there was only silence or crying. At the same time, eye contact disappeared, the child left this reality in an instant.”
During the full-scale invasion, in March 2022, Mykola and his mother were hit by a direct air strike, suffered concussion and a brain hemorrhage. At that time, it was difficult to find a doctor in the city, so they “treated him as they knew how.” Later, after the examination, he was diagnosed with autism, mental retardation, ADHD, speech impediment, and gliosis.
Now Mykola needs classes with specialists to form and consolidate vital skills, to calm the nervous system and understand speech.
The Foundation paid for the necessary course of classes for Mykola.
"We are extremely grateful to the Bonum Ukraine Foundation and every person who helped us to undergo the rehabilitation course. Mykola began to understand the spoken language more, sounds that were never there before, eye contact and pointing gestures were made. This is so little for an ordinary person and a huge victory for Mykola!", - his mother shares her son's achievements.
We understand how much effort and energy a sick child sometimes needs to put into a seemingly ordinary action. We want so much that diagnoses are just words written on a piece of paper and have no impact on children and their lives. Therefore, we continue to urge everyone to make donations that can be life-saving for the health of the Foundation's wards.
The donation amount is non-refundable, and the funds are distributed among the foundation's projects
