Polina was born a year before the war in Kherson. From the first days of her life, her path was extremely difficult — a congenital heart defect, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neurodevelopmental delay became difficult trials for the girl and her mother.
The war and occupation of her hometown delayed the search for an accurate diagnosis. When Kherson was liberated, Polina and her mother left the constant danger behind. She was only 1 year and 10 months old at the time. She hardly slept, weighed half as much as normal, and could barely stand on her feet — she was constantly falling. Every few weeks, she was exhausted by high temperatures and endless illnesses...
Despite losing her home under the waters of the Dnipro River after the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant was blown up, despite rarely seeing her father, who is defending Ukraine on the front lines, Polya continues to fight. She is growing up, already running (though she still stumbles more often than her younger sister), drawing, counting, and learning to read. She is an incredible little fighter!
But Polya's heart needs help. A double hole measuring more than a centimetre prevents it from working properly.
Thanks to caring people and donations, the Foundation paid for the implants for Polya's operation. This was only possible thanks to the unity and kindness of those who responded.
Polina's mother shares her emotions after the operation:
"They did a follow-up ultrasound. The doctors say everything went very well. They told me that this is a very rare case. Not in terms of defects, but in terms of treatment. First, the holes are large, but they managed to close both defects at once through the femoral artery. Secondly, people are often deterred by the cost of this treatment, so it is often done in stages with a long interval between them. I have said it before, and now I want to shout it out loud — OUR PEOPLE ARE THE BEST. OUR DOCTORS ARE TRUE MASTERS OF THEIR CRAFT!"
Today, we sincerely thank everyone who contributed to saving Polina's heart. Your support has given this child a chance for a healthy future, a childhood and a happy tomorrow.
Together, we saved the heart of a little Ukrainian girl — THANK YOU!
The donation amount is non-refundable, and the funds are distributed among the foundation's projects
