Bonum has funded a modern, innovative treatment for Kira!

Our entire community recently called on everyone to keep their fingers crossed for Kira, and today we are pleased to report that the innovative operation funded by #BonumUkraine has been a success.

Kira was born with a congenital difference in the length of her legs. Initially, the difference was 2 cm, but over time it began to increase rapidly. By the age of 1 year and 9 months, the difference had reached almost 6 cm, and doctors were forced to recommend complex surgery — the fitting of an external fixation device (EFD) to lengthen the limb.
It was an extremely difficult time for the child and her family. Kira was forced to remain bedridden for a long time, unable to move or lead an active life like other children her age. Several more operations lay ahead: the gradual release of the device and its complete removal. Thanks to the doctors’ efforts, the difference in leg length was reduced to a minimum.
However, during recovery, the problem began to recur, and the difference increased again to 2 cm. Therefore, it was decided to treat her using a modern surgical method of periosteal detachment.
This is an innovative technique that stimulates natural bone growth through special incisions in the growth zone. It is less invasive, does not require prolonged use of external devices, and allows the child to return to an active life more quickly.

Thanks to the support of caring people, the Bonum Ukraine Charitable Foundation paid for this operation for Kira. This is another important step towards her being able to run, jump and enjoy her childhood without pain.
